Fixer Upper star Joanna Gaines just release a memoir and new four episode companion podcast called "The Stories We Tell."
The podcast featured conversations with Chip, her sisters, and her mom. Her mother Nan Stevens' episode was especially emotional as they reflected on Nan's past as well as their Korean heritage.
Nan started out talking about her childhood in Korea, where she suffered verbal and physical abuse by her parents. She loved American culture and became rebellious, meeting Joanna's father when she was just 18 years old. Nan then moved to America and continued to feel like an outsider here.
Then Joanna talked about growing up and being teased because she was half-Korean but Joanna never told her mother in order to protect her. Joanna went on to explain "I never sensed you were not strong enough to carry it, but I just felt like we could have two people hurt here or one, which is why I opted to silence my pain."
